SSC MTS & Havaldar 2026: Defense & Paramilitary Recruitment Guide
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially scheduled the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) Recruitment 2026. This notification is a primary entry point for candidates seeking a stable career in the Central Government, particularly within the specialized enforcement wings of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN).
1. Vacancy Details & Important Dates 2026
Currently, the SSC is expected to announce approximately 7,948 vacancies for the 2026 cycle. Furthermore, these are split into 6,810 for MTS and 1,138 for Havaldar posts.

2. Defense-Specific Physical Standards (Havaldar Only)
Additionally, candidates opting for the Havaldar post in the CBIC or CBN must meet strict physical eligibility requirements. Consequently, if you are applying for general MTS posts, these standards do not apply to you.

3. Selection Process & Exam Pattern
Therefore, the 2026 recruitment consists of a single-stage Computer Based Examination (CBE) divided into two mandatory sessions.

Session 1 (Qualifying): Numerical Ability & Reasoning (40 Questions, 120 Marks). Notably, there is no negative marking in this session.

Session 2 (Merit-Based): General Awareness & English (50 Questions, 150 Marks). Moreover, there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in this session.

Stage 2 (For Havaldar): Only Havaldar candidates will undergo the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) mentioned above.
4. Salary & Pay Matrix (Level 1)
In addition, the SSC MTS and Havaldar positions fall under Pay Level 1 of the 7th CPC. Consequently, the starting basic pay is ₹18,000. Including the current 2026 Dearness Allowance (DA), HRA, and Transport Allowance, the total in-hand salary ranges between ₹28,000 and ₹35,000 depending on the city category.
