1. ISRO Scientist/Engineer Exam Pattern 2026

Initially, candidates must understand that the ISRO Centralized Recruitment Board (ICRB) follows a very specific testing structure. Consequently, the written test is divided into two parts:

  • Part A (Area Specific): Consists of 80 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) based on your core engineering branch. Each correct answer earns 1 mark, but be careful—there is a 1/3 negative marking for wrong answers.

  • Part B (Aptitude/Ability): Includes 15 questions covering Numerical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Abstract Reasoning. Additionally, this part has a total of 20 marks and generally does not have negative marking.

2. Detailed Technical Syllabus 2026

Furthermore, to help you prepare effectively, here are the key topics for the major engineering disciplines:

  • Mechanical Engineering: Applied Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Manufacturing Technology.

  • Electronics & Communication: Networks, Signals & Systems, Electronic Devices, Analog/Digital Circuits, Control Systems, and Electromagnetics.

  • Computer Science: Data Structures, Algorithms, Operating Systems, Databases, Computer Networks, and Theory of Computation.

  • Electrical Engineering: Circuit Theory, Electrical Machines, Power Systems, and Control Systems.

3. Interview Selection & Weightage

Moreover, clearing the written test is only the first step. Therefore, candidates are shortlisted for an interview in a 1:5 ratio (based on vacancies). The final selection is based on:

  1. Technical Knowledge: 40 Marks

  2. General Awareness (Technical field): 20 Marks

  3. Presentation/Communication: 20 Marks

  4. Academic Achievements: 10 Marks

  5. Comprehension: 10 Marks

4. Age Limit & Relaxation Norms

In addition, applicants must meet the age criteria as of the closing date of the notification. For most Scientist ‘SC’ posts:

  • General Category: 18 to 28 or 30 years (varies by center).

  • OBC Candidates: 3 years relaxation (up to 31/33 years).

  • SC/ST Candidates: 5 years relaxation (up to 33/35 years).

  • Departmental/Ex-Servicemen: As per Government of India orders.
