KARTET Qualification (Eligibility Requirement) 2026
The Karnataka Teacher Eligibility Test (KARTET) is a mandatory eligibility examination for candidates who wish to become teachers in government, aided, and recognized schools in Karnataka. The eligibility requirements differ for Paper I (Classes I–V) and Paper II (Classes VI–VIII).
KARTET Eligibility for Paper I (Classes I to V)
Candidates applying for Primary Teacher (Classes I–V) must satisfy any one of the following qualifications:
Option 1
- Passed PUC/12th or equivalent with at least 50% marks, and
- Passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed/D.Ed).
Option 2
- Passed PUC/12th or equivalent with at least 50% marks, and
- Passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
Option 3
- Passed PUC/12th with at least 50% marks, and
- Passed or appearing in the final year of Diploma in Special Education.
Option 4
- Graduation (BA/BSc/BCom or equivalent), and
- Passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
KARTET Eligibility for Paper II (Classes VI to VIII)
Candidates applying for Upper Primary Teacher (Classes VI–VIII) must satisfy any one of the following qualifications:
Option 1
- Graduation degree, and
- Passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
Option 2
- Graduation with at least 50% marks, and
- Passed or appearing in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).
Option 3
- Graduation with at least 45% marks, and
- Passed or appearing in B.Ed, as per NCTE norms.
Option 4
- Senior Secondary (12th) with at least 50% marks, and
- Passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year B.El.Ed.

Relaxation in Marks
Candidates belonging to reserved categories receive relaxation in qualifying marks:
- SC/ST/Cat-I/PwD candidates: Up to 5% relaxation in minimum educational qualification marks.
